‘In the EU, consumers have rights! Insist on your rights. They are yours by right!’. This is the main message of an EU information campaign on consumer rights that is currently unfolding in Malta.
The aim of the campaign is to inform the Maltese about their rights as consumers in the EU and to empower them to claim these rights. It also aims to encourage consumers to seek further information and advice from l-Ghaqda tal-Konsumaturi and the European Consumer Centre if they encounter problems whilst shopping. It is a light-hearted campaign and revolves around real-life situations that a young couple is likely to experience.
The campaign was launched by European Commissioner for Consumers Meglena Kuneva in Valletta on 10 September 2007.
The popular Maltese actor and impersonator Ray Calleja plays the role of both the male and the female characters in the campaign messages. The messages try, in a humorous manner, to encourage consumers to insist on their rights and to put basic notions of consumer rights across.
This campaign unfolds through a variety of media, including radio spots, informative messages in Maltese and English language newspapers, and billboards, as well as numerous PR activities that are taking place through the Spring of 2008. Specific campaign activities will also target the business community in Malta.
